3.6-litre liquid-cooled DOHC horizontally opposed six-cylinder engine with four valves per cylinder, VarioCam Plus, twin turbochargers with air-to-air intercoolers, Bosch engine management with port fuel injection, 456 HP at 5,700 RPM, six-speed manual gearbox in rear transaxle, four-wheel independent suspension, hydraulic four-wheel disc brakes with ABS; wheelbase: 92.5"
A true factory-tuned hot rod, the 996-generation Porsche 911 GT2 debuted at the 2001 North American Auto Show in Detroit for release as an early 2002 model. Designed to deliver limitless thrills on the road and track alike for expert-level drivers, the new GT2 was in essence a 911 Turbo without the latter’s four-wheel-drive system but featuring the modified intake and exhaust systems and turbochargers of Porsche’s infamous ‘X50’ performance kit to deliver a power boost to 456 horsepower. A six-speed manual gearbox was solely available for the GT2, which also featured upgraded and highly functional aerodynamics, a special “asymmetric” limited-slip differential, Porsche ceramic composite brakes (with ABS) and a lowered and tuned chassis equipped with wider lightweight wheels and sticky low-profile tires.
Contemporary road-test data included a top speed nearing 200 miles per hour, 0-to-60 acceleration in 3.77 seconds, the 1/4-mile in 12.09 seconds and 1.02g on the skid pad. Road-test editors were all highly impressed, with Autoweek best describing the GT2 as the 911 Turbo’s “evil twin.” Produced in small numbers 2002-2004, with only an estimated 40 percent destined for the United States, the 996-generation GT2 continues to be highly sought-after by committed Porsche collectors and enthusiasts today.
Produced July 1, 2001 and finished in Arctic Silver Metallic over black leather upholstery with Guards Red belts, this stellar 2002 Porsche 911 GT2 features 30 factory-fitted features and options that boosted its already lofty price when new to $258,410. Among them were electrically adjustable exterior mirrors, illuminated vanity mirrors, headlight cleaning system, Sports bucket seats, 18” Turbo-Look wheels, CD storage, alarm system, graduated tint windscreen, automatic climate control, electric windows, on-board computer, Porsche CDR-220 CD radio, aluminum-colored instrument dials, carbon steering wheel, and embroidered Porsche crests on the headrests.
Following assembly, this GT2 was shipped to Canada and delivered new to the first owner, a resident of British Columbia on Canada’s west coast, on August 29, 2002. In April 2007, it migrated to Toronto, Ontario, remaining there until it was sold in 2015 to a new owner in New Jersey at just 9,500 recorded miles. Most recently, it was purchased by the Texas-based consignor, who had the GT2 professionally reviewed and serviced. Fewer than 12,000 miles have been traveled at the time of writing. As offered, this outstanding 2002 Porsche 911 GT2 comes to market with a clean CARFAX® vehicle history report, plus a printout supplied by Porsche showing original data and its lengthy list of factory features and options.
