Uncovering a factory Porsche 930 Slant Nose is about as likely as unearthing buried treasure. Incredibly desirable and at the apex of performance for a street-legal vehicle upon release, very few actually exist. The 930 Slant Nose may never have happened had it not been for a random twist of fate. Porsche 935, the legendary turbo-charged racing offshoot of the 911, took the racing world by storm and clinched second overall in 24 Hours of Le Mans. Inevitably, a Porsche enthusiast and supporter of the marque’s racing, implored Porsche via their Sonderwische (special wishes) department to craft a road-legal version of the 935. When his wish was granted in 1984, worldwide Porsche-lovers soon clamored for the same bespoke model and happily agreed to the 60% price hike. The result: the Porsche 930 Flachbau (Slant Nose), which was produced in quite limited numbers due to expense and the painstaking, artisan craftsmanship.

Powered by a 3.3-litre, flat-six turbo-charged engine, the 930 Flachbau boasted 282 horsepower with a top speed of 171 mph. In crafting this mechanized masterpiece, alterations included reshaped steel, louvered front fenders that were outfitted with retractable headlights as well as a slant nose, boxed rockers, wider quarter panels and rear wing spoiler, which combined delivered staggering aerodynamics and serious styling. The oil-cooling system and fan, brake-cooling vents under visually striking side panel strakes and wider wheels and tires rounded out what became the pinnacle of street-legal performance. Consequently, the 930 Slant Nose nailed it in aesthetics and bore a striking resemblance to the legendary 935 racer.

This exemplary 1988 Porsche Factory 930 Slant Nose Cabriolet, robed in Grand Prix White with black interior, is a pristine example of a seriously limited model. It retains matching numbers, recorded ownership history, Porsche Certificate of Authenticity and bares only 41,540 miles on the odometer. Factory upgrades include driving lights, alarm, headlight washers, a limited slip differential battery, power brakes, Fuchs alloy wheels with Porsche caps and nuts. The well-appointed cabin offers heated, adjustable seats, Blaupunkt stereo, heating, air-conditioning, power steering as well as automatic locks, top and windows, all in working order. Maintained with kid gloves to exacting standards in a climate-controlled environment, this immaculate car is as fresh now as the day it departed Zuffenhausen. Close inspection confirms a clean driving history, sound exhaust system and suspension. With up-to-date servicing and maintenance, this highly sought-after 930 Flachbau Cabriolet represents one of Porsche’s greatest legacies. It’s now poised for spirited use or as a jewel on your showroom floor.
