With GM settling into a styling groove, Cadillac's '62s were very similar to the '61s. Highlights included still-lower fins, front-fender cornering lights as a new option, a somewhat more refined grille, and backup/turn/stop lights combined behind a single white lens. Four-window sedans received more orthodox rooflines but still included a pair of short-deck variants, which were now named Series 62 Town Sedan and DeVille Park Avenue. A new braking system with dual master cylinder and separate front and rear hydraulic lines appeared for safety, a portent of the future. This was the last year of the beautiful wraparound windshield and are considered highly collectible cars. The 1962 Biarritz was somewhat more distinctive that the 1961 version, thanks to its thin upper bodyside moldings. Production was limited to 1,450 units, exactly the same as the year before, while the division's overall production rose substantially. The Biarritz was the ultimate in luxury and performance from Cadillac in 1962. It was the first year of the dual master cylinder braking system and offered an array of options not available even a few years earlier. They had a stealthy jet-aged look to them and, with that look across the whole line of Cadillac in 1962, Cadillac saw a nearly 30% increase in overall sales.
This 1962 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz Convertible comes from over 30 years of single ownership where it was carefully maintained and restored only as needed. The owner was active in the show world and showed this car many times including in Hartford, Connecticut, Newport, Rhode Island and at the New England Concours. It is loaded with just about every Cadillac option available for 1962 including working factory air-conditioning, power windows and vent windows, power trunk, power locks, cruise control, Autronic Eye, power seats and power antenna. The car has been regularly maintained and exercised and has benefitted from a full tune-up, brake service and complete detail this year. It is rust-free and restored to correct original condition. It has new tires, its correct jack and spare, original owner's manual with warranty supplement and extra parts with the car. One would be hard pressed to find another in this condition and with this list of factory options.
