1963 marked the Corvette’s 10th year of production, and something special was needed to celebrate the occasion. Designed by GM stylist Larry Shinoda under the guidance of Bill Mitchell, the 1963 Sting Ray brought the C2 era to life and introduced all-new aerodynamic styling and superb mechanical engineering. Only some 10,594 coupes were produced for 1963. For 1963, the Sting Ray featured aggressive looking, yet handsome hidden headlights. The distinctive and iconic split-window rear glass distinguished the 1963 models from all other Sting Rays, thereafter, making it a highly important and desirable design feature. All these qualities combined to make a highly desirable classic, both in the period and today.
This original 1963 Split-Window Corvette has been completely restored and custom hand-built incorporating all the best features that a modern Corvette has to offer but retaining its iconic 1963 design virtues. Every nut and bolt has been restored to perfection and nearly every facet of this classic Corvette has been upgraded and modernized, starting with a custom-built SRIII chassis with C6 Corvette suspension and transaxle with QAI adjustable shocks and C6 Corvette disc brakes. Under the hood is a powerful C7 Corvette LT4 V-8 fuel-injected engine producing an impressive 650 horsepower shifted through a T56 six-speed manual transmission with a Monster Clutch twin-disc hydraulic clutch. A low-restriction, hi-performance, heat-wrapped, custom Mandrel bent exhaust system with Borla mufflers allows the mighty LT4 engine to breathe and produces a vigorous rumble. All of this potent hardware rides on custom wheels by Mike Curtis Designs that evoke the look of the original-style finned knock-off wheels and are fitted with 225/45 R18 Redline Michelin Super Sports tires in the front with slightly larger 275/45 R19 Michelin Latitude Redline tires in the rear, giving the car just the right aggressive looking stance.
Comfort and convenience amenities include a highly detailed and luxurious lipstick red leather interior with custom-built bucket seats and charcoal accents created by master upholsterer Paul Atkins. A Dashworks custom dash features state of the art Dakota Digital HDX Instruments with a custom black overlay and red accent finish. The cockpit is kept cool thanks to a Vintage Air Gen IV climate control with a fully electronic microprocessor control system. Listening entertainment is provided by Pioneer speakers powered by an Alpine amp with Bluetooth. An attractive Billet Specialty steering wheel is mounted to a tilt steering column. Power windows and all new glass are also featured.
Stunningly finished in Maserati Silver Grigio Nuvolari Metallic PPG paint with bumpers that have been discreetly tucked tight to the body, this sensational Corvette has been driven less than 300 miles since restoration was completed and is in pristine show condition.
