It was while he was there that actor Steve McQueen became friends with Von Dutch and invited him to come live at his airport facility near Santa Barbara. These two signs were created when Movie World started up a collector car auction company. These are the original signs created for the auction house by Von Dutch and have been in the possession of the former auction manager since the late 1970s. Selling on SaturdayOriginal Silver Arrow Rendering by Car Designer Philip O. Wright
Offered Without ReserveOne of America's most talented automotive stylists of the Classic Car era was Philip O. Wright. His career in automotive design started with the Walter M. Murphy Company in Pasadena, California where he lent his talents to create a one-off Cord L29 for actress Delores Del Rio. During a chance meeting with Roy Faulkner, then President of the Cord Corporation, he was talked into joining the Cord design team where he designed the superb L29 Speedster among other vehicles. When Faulkner made his move to Pierce-Arrow, Phil Wright joined him and was responsible for some major updating of their entire line, but his crowning achievement was designing the fabulous Silver Arrow sedans created for the Chicago Century of Progress Exhibition. This is an original rendering of the Pierce-Arrow Silver Arrow sedan commissioned by our consignor directly from Mr. Wright in the early 1970s. It is one of a series of drawings Mr. Wright did, it is multimedia on paper, matted and signed in the lower right-hand corner. Some age staining on matting. Image 19.5" x 6.5". Matting 23" x 11".

Using white ink and gouache on black paper, this is the ultimate in classic car design. This stunning car was part of a group of drawings commissioned by our consignor in the early 1970s. It is matted and signed in the lower right-hand corner. There is slight aging to the matting and backing of this work. Image 17.5" x 6.5"; Matting 21.5" x 10.5".

Selling on SaturdayTwo Original Drawings 1935 and 1936 Fords by Designer Philip O. Wright
Offered Without ReservePhilip O. Wright enjoyed his tenure at Pierce-Arrow even if it meant spending time in South Bend, Indiana working with Studebaker. Upon returning to Buffalo in early 1932, he told his boss Roy Faulkner that he would stay as long as he could. A few days later, Pierce-Arrow shut its doors and Wright was off to Detroit where he connected first with John Tjaarda and worked on the development of the Lincoln Zephyr. Later he transferred to LeBaron where he worked with Ralph Roberts and helped to design the 1935 and later the 1936 Fords. The first painting by Mr. Wright is of the 1935 Ford Deluxe Phaeton with its top in the up position, and the 1936 Ford Deluxe Roadster, also top-up and of which Mr. Wright said in an interview, he preferred over the two. Both drawings are ink and gouache on gray mottled paper and are matted and signed in the lower right-hand corner. Close observation will reveal the pinhole in the center of the wheels to create perfectly round wheels and tires. Both drawings, Image 17" x 7", Matting 21" x 11", lot of 2.

Selling on SaturdayNASCAR 50 Greatest
Offered Without ReserveIn 1998, NASCAR commemorated its 50th anniversary by recognizing the sport’s “50 Greatest Drivers” at a gala fete at the Daytona 500. Few predicted from its start on the dusty dirt ovals of Dixie that NASCAR would burgeon into a legitimate force on the American sports scene. But excel it did, even as these drivers accelerated behind the wheel. A group of independent NASCAR-affiliated individuals selected these top 50 drivers. Once the honorees were identified, this limited-edition lithograph, of which only 250 exist, was produced by Press Pass. During pre-race festivities at the ’98 Daytona 500, the 34 then-living drivers signed the lithograph. The 34 signatures are Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt, Dale Jarrett, AJ Foyt, Rusty Wallace, Glen Wood, Bobby Allison, Jerry Cook, Jeff Gordon, Ricky Rudd, Lee Petty, Jack Ingram, Buck Baker, Ernie Irvan, Buddy Baker, Geoff Bodine, Ned Jarrett, Junior Johnson, Herb Thomas, Terry Labonte, Fred Lorenzen, Darrell Waltrip, Mark Martin, Red Farmer, Hershel McGriff, Rex White, Tim Flock, Cotton Owens, Marvin Panch, Cale Yarborough, Harry Gant, Benny Parsons and David Pearson.
