1963 marked the 10th year of Corvette production, and the very first C2 Corvette was highly anticipated. Veteran designer Larry Shinoda responded with an all-new level of aerodynamic styling and mechanical engineering for the new C2 Sting Ray. Features like the hidden headlamps and iconic split rear window resonated with sports car buyers immediately, and 10,594 coupes were purchased in ’63.
This incredible restomod takes all that style and desirability and ramps it up a notch. Starting with a highly original Corvette, every inch of this spectacular show car has been hand built, incorporating all the best features of a modern Vette, yet retaining all the iconic 1963 design features. Starting with a custom Art Morrison pro-touring chassis, which features fully independent rear suspension and Wilwood carbon ceramic brakes, this Vette has an impressive stance riding on the custom B-Forged wheels and low-profile Michelin tires. It is clean and show-quality throughout, and certainly a car that could qualify for virtually any car event you choose.
The paint and body work are spectacular, a true show car quality build, with all the awards to prove it. Even the glass is custom and sleekly flush mounted, with unique one-piece side windows. Subtle improvements include the custom hood, flared wheel wells, new firewall and floor pan, all executed with stylish results. It all rides on spectacular custom gold anodized wheels and modern low-profile tires. You’ll rarely see a custom car built with this attention to detail, none-the-less a Split Window Vette, and this car sits right on the sweet spot between classic and modified.
You’ll want to spend some time under the custom hood where a simply gorgeous V-8 resides, complete with gold anodized custom intake and fuel injection. Gold anodized valve covers finish it off, with lots of billet steel, all housed in an incredibly smoothed and clean engine compartment. It is easy to spend a lot of time with this hood open. It’s impeccably clean, sounds throaty, and performs like no stock Corvette motor could even dream of. Slide inside, and a custom tan leather interior greets you with plushness to spare. Custom bucket seats are highly bolstered and simply beautiful, with modern gauges sporting a thoroughly vintage look. The custom steering wheel is an amazing piece of art, the Kicker Q-Class audio system is top shelf; you and a lucky passenger will enjoy the versatile interior lighting and burled wood dash.
The list of awards this car has won in the past four years is impressive, including Best in Class at the 2017 Detroit Autorama and Chicago World of Wheels. It was GM Design’s top choice at the “Top 10 Battle of the Builders” at SEMA and has claimed several Builders Choice Awards at Goodguys events around the country. In addition, it has been featured in Vette Magazine, Vette Vues, and Wheel Hub magazine, and was chosen as the cover car for the Art Morrison catalogue as well as the Snap-On calendar cover car for 2020. These awards came at great cost as the build, with receipts included, totaled over $500,000. One look and it is easy to see where every penny went. Highly awarded and undeniably impressive, this incredible Corvette is one of the finest of its kind in the world and will certainly look the part in any collection or show it enters.
