Building upon the success of the 1954 Ford and its newly introduced Y-Block V-8, Ford took the opportunity to introduce the Fairlane model series in 1955 with new styling cues that were intended to stack up against the also new 1955 Chevrolets of the day. Offered in multiple body styles, with three different engines, trim levels and a myriad of options, the car proved to be remarkably successful and accounted for 45% of 1955 Ford production. By the time 1956 came around, the Ford Fairlane's distinctive styling was similar to the elegance of the sporty Thunderbird, lots of shiny chrome, inviting interiors, and great colors from which to choose. It was easy to tell the inspiration came from one of Americas favorite dream cars, the Thunderbird and the Fairlane easily became one of Americas favorite cruisers and family cars to own.

Presented here is a charming example from Ford's mid ‘50s lineup, a 1956 Ford Fairlane. While under the ownership of Neil Martin of Goldenrod Garage in Freeport, Maine it was stripped all the way down and given a rotisserie restoration, during which a handful of photos were taken documenting the process. Making sure it appeared as original as possible, the outside was painted in its factory two-tone colors of Meadowmist Green and Colonial White, a fitting color combination for this car. It wears flashy chrome throughout its body and sits on whitewall tires on steel wheels with full chrome wheel discs. This car features a dealer optioned continental kit, similar to the one used on the 1956 Thunderbird.

Receiving the same care and attention to detail as the outside, the inside is also fully restored. The exterior two-tone color theme continues into the interior with two-tone bench seats, dash, side panels, and can comfortably seat six occupants. Beneath each Fairlane hood purrs a mighty V-8 power plant, the same engine that helped make the Thunderbird a famous sports car. After the restoration was finished it was displayed in Neil Martin’s collection for some time before eventually making its way into the current consignor’s collection located in Arizona. Sparingly driven, but always properly maintained, this flashy ’56 Ford Fairlane is ready to be cruised around and shown off at events and shows.
