Before this 1950 Mercury Convertible made its way into the current consigner’s collection in Arizona, it resided with Neil Martin, a well-known car enthusiast who owned and operated Goldenrod Garage out of Freeport, Maine. Once it traded hands, this “gold standard” of ‘50’s cruisers received a professional body-off restoration. The body was painted a period red maroon and all of the chrome was brought back to its original showroom shine. During the restoration, a new Haartz cloth black top with matching red piping was installed on the body, which has the ability to go up and down with a click of a button. Complementing the already attractive chrome, it comes with optional dual mounted spotlights and fog lamps in the front.

If the outside wasn’t enough to wow you, the interior comes with some tasteful upgrades as well. The bench seats, sides, and door panels have new two-tone black and red leather and the flooring has been replaced with new red carpet. The original dash was replaced with a ’49 Mercury dashboard and all new modern instruments were added into the panel. Coming off the dash is a 1956 Chevy steering wheel that adds to the overall look and feel of the cabin.

The upgrades can be found just about everywhere as the engine has been replaced with a more efficient and reliable 350 cid V8 GM engine that is backed by an automatic transmission. Having been mechanically updated and regularly exercised, it is ready for highway speeds or back road enjoyment. Creature comforts like front disc brakes, power steering, windows, radio, and air conditioning also add to its desirable drivability.

Stock 1950 Mercury’s have come to be seen as ideal cars to take out and about in town due to their classic looks and spacious interiors, the current owner was able to take that up a few extra notches thanks to its updated engine and handful of other upgrades. Ready to take on modern day highway speeds with its top in the down position, this classic ‘50s automobile is a blast from the past and will be sure to give you a fun and memorable time.
