Ford entered the 1940 model year with an all-new advertising campaign that marketed their models as “An All-Ford Beauty”. They began shipping their all-new models to dealers across the country in the later part of 1939 and once again offered a Standard and Deluxe model, each having their own distinct features. In total Ford pushed out 559,175 units, but among that substantial number, fewer than 30 percent were Deluxe models.

This beautiful 1940 Ford Deluxe Coupe's known history can be traced back to 1970 where it was owned by John Anderson of Layton, Utah. While in his possession the body-off restoration was started, but ten months into the process he had to sell the car to Gene Miller, a local high school teacher. Gene would go on to finish the restoration, and the outcome was nothing short of spectacular, which is one of the reasons Mr. Thorne was so attracted to it. The two lived close to each other and would see each other from time to time at car related events which would lead to Ron purchasing the Ford from Mr. Miller and adding it to his growing Ford collection.

The outside was dipped in an attractive Mandarin Maroon that depicts a brilliant shine and luster while in the sun. The Edsel designed front end has a curved nose with a chrome grille underneath and sealed beam headlights intergraded in the front fenders flanking the grille. Like the rest of the chrome, the front and rear bumpers shine nicely and have optional bumper guard tips and a Ford script grille guard. Other rare and hard to find features on the exterior include Ford Script white-wall tires and Ford Script safety glass in the roll down windows. 1940 models also saw the adoption of venting windows. Now all Ford owners could crack the vent window for improved circulation throughout the cabin.

Once you open the doors, the occupants are greeted by Deluxe Broadcloth upholstery on the bench seat, door panels, and roof liner. The dashboard is done in a Deluxe exclusive color combination with the upper section in a Monarda Maroon and the lower section of Copper Sand Metallic. The interior comes with many amenities that aid in the driving experience, like a two spoke Ford Deluxe script steering wheel, Philco radio, heater, and dashboard mounted clock.

The 85 horsepower V-8 engine has been mechanically and cosmetically restored back to its period correct appearance. It has Ford script hoses and parts, as well as a new battery. The engine is backed by a first-year styling three-speed gear shifter mounted to the steering column.

Coming from one of the finest early Ford V-8 collections in the country, this 1940 Ford Deluxe Coupe lives up to its name as “An All-Ford Beauty”. With a stunning body-off restoration, attractive color, and equipped with many factory options, this Deluxe Coupe will be a great automobile for any car enthusiast to acquire, show and enjoy.
