CHASSIS NO: 181305555

221 cid V-8 engine, 85 HP, three-speed manual transmission, solid front axle and live rear axle with transverse semi-elliptic leaf springs, and four-wheel mechanical drum brakes; wheelbase: 112”

Not many Ford enthusiasts would disagree with Ford’s sales advertisement of “Greater Beauty, Greater Comfort, and Greater Safety” for its 1935 models. The narrower redesigned radiator grille lost its sharply vee’d base, and four horizontal bars helped accentuate the 1935 model’s new, lower and more streamlined appearance for the period. The Deluxe now also featured a bright windshield and grille trim work, as well as dual exposed horns and twin taillights that helped add to the simple, yet classic design.

Reigning as the only ’35 Ford in the Ron Thorne Collection, it commanded attention while displayed and was sparingly driven on the road. Mr. Thorne acquired this vehicle from a gentleman located in Bend, Oregon where it had been garnering praise everywhere it went. The previous owner had performed an extensive body-off restoration where he finished it in original rare Coach Maroon, which was one of only two colors offered for export and special ordered cars. It was outfitted with beautiful chrome artillery wheels with Firestone whitewall tires. Only adding to its lush stance, this car features Deluxe options that include a chrome greyhound radiator cap, dual side-mounted mirrors, dual windshield wipers, rear-mounted spare tire with a locking cover and a medium bright Poppy Red luggage rack. The optional rumble seat comes with faux leather that comfortably seats two people. The fruits of his labor were apparent when this car was entered in its first judging event and took home a Dearborn Award at the Western National Meet held in Oregon.

The restoration quality is evident throughout the cabin, as the brown mohair interior is in very nice condition and features factory options including an AM radio with a speaker mounted to the ceiling, and a roll-down back glass with a privacy shade. The 85-horsepower V-8 engine has also been properly restored back to its period-correct appearance and specs, leaving it in show-ready form. After Mr. Thorne acquired this stunning coupe it was invited, displayed and honored for the 75th anniversary of the 1935 Ford at the 2010 National V-8 Ford Club meet. There it was admired by many and notably received many compliments for its character and beauty. Since then, this ’35 Ford has been nestled away in the collection. Looking to make a long overdue appearance on a show field once again, the next caretaker can rest assured they are acquiring a restored vehicle that presents endless opportunities.
