When the Model A automobile came rolling onto the scene in 1927, it seamlessly took the baton from the rather dated looking Model T and became the new staple automobile for the American people. Offered in an array of different styles with convenient features and unique color schemes, it made quick time in selling over two million models and became one of the most popular cars ever produced. Its sales pitch not only worked on the public when it first made its appearance, but it also stands true to this day as many seasoned, as well as new, collectors aspire to have a Model A in their garage.

The 1928 Model A Phaeton being offered here is the earliest car in the Ron Thorne Collection, and one that Ron had been after for his Ford stable for many years. Even though he already had restored Model A's in his collection, he knew this Phaeton had to be in his, and for good reason. Before he acquired the Phaeton in 2018, it had already been through a body-off restoration and resided in the Ardell Brown Collection. Knowing Ardell Brown personally, he knew the type of care and attention to detail he put into all of Ardell's vehicles, which led him to have a desire for the Phaeton to be in his own collection. Years before Ardell passed, Ron tried to purchase this vehicle, but was unsuccessful. It wasn’t until Ardell’s collection went up for sale in 2018 that he was successful in becoming the new and proud owner. Since being welcomed into his own Ford collection, it has been carefully maintained and exercised accordingly to keep the mechanics in proper working order.

This classy Phaeton is offered in a period-popular two-tone tan and black exterior with brown interior and a matching folding black top. It rides on painted wire wheels which are wrapped in Firestone tires that assist in a smooth and efficient ride down the road. The 201-cubic-inch inline four-cylinder engine fed by an iconic Zenith carburetor is mechanically sound and ready to be driven and shown by its next caretaker. The engine is backed by a selective sliding-gear three-speed manual transmission with multiple-disc dry-plate clutch and spiral-bevel differential.

Equipment for this 1928 Model A includes a rear-mounted spare tire, woodgrain steering wheel, driver windshield wiper, and complete set of side curtains. Coming from two highly regarded collections, the next owner can rest assured this Phaeton was treated to a proper restoration and is ready to be driven into its next home.
