The GPZ550 was an intermediate bike for the public. The café niche was catered to with the bikini or quarter style fairing. A seat cowl added to the look. This year they used the twin shocks in the rear. Kawasaki was realizing that there was a “niche” for the mid-size bikes. No longer were they in the little brother category but a whole world of their own. The painting cases provided a pleasing contrast to the bright red paint.
