“One after another and another and another! This Li’l Red Express just keeps beating them all!” When Dodge released the iconic Li’l Red Express Truck in 1978, it not only was one of the most unique trucks to ever be produced, but Car and Driver magazine proved it to be the fastest American made vehicle from 0 to 100 MPH. The lethal rolling threat quickly made a name for itself on the dragstrip, taking down some of the most recognizable muscle cars of the ‘60s and ‘70s. However, the Li’l Red Express would only last in production for two years till it was put to rest…..until the year 2009. Looking to pay homage to the red rocket, legendary Mopar hot rodder Norm Kraus, best known as “Mr. Norm,” created an aftermarket package to turn 2009 and newer Dodge Ram trucks into Red Xpress machines. The package came with a cat back exhaust kit with dual chrome stack pipes that punched through the cargo box behind the B-pillar, a wood bed liner, the ‘Red Xpress Truck’ graphics, custom leather stitched logos, red powder coated disc brake caliper covers, and a dash badge with a unique serial number on it.
Streaming from the Li’l Red Express’ legacy comes this 2011 Dodge Ram Truck that has been fitted with the “Mr. Norm’s Red Xpress” package. The current owner sparingly drove this practically new truck, leaving it with a mere 5,883 miles and showing no signs of wear or tear. The exterior is painted in an eye popping red and has the gold Red Xpress Truck graphics wrapped all around it, proudly displaying the name on the driver and passenger doors. This example features a Mopar Ram R/T hood with dual integrated scoops, chrome side steps, chrome gas cap door, and a chrome grille that all matches the Ram chrome rims. Topping off the Red Xpress package, the brake calipers have a red cover over them. Mr. Norm replaced the bed liner with well-varnished wood and dual chrome smokestack exhaust creating an aggressive rumble throughout the cabin.
The interior is finished in a black and silver color combination with two ultra-comfy black leather bucket seats that have the ‘Red Xpress Truck’ logo stitched into them. A seven-inch touch screen with hands-free calling resides in the middle dash. All the creature comforts are included like air-conditioning and heating, wall outlet, auxiliary outlets, and more. Slated on the middle dash is a silver plaque with the year of the truck and its unique serial number. This one happens to be the first of seven Rams to be converted in 2011, labeled as serial number “001” and is also a member in the “Mr. Norm’s Sport Club” registry.
Under the hood lies a nice surprise, as Mr. Norm himself autographed and labeled this truck before it left the factory. It is powered by a 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 engine that produces 390 horsepower and 407 pounds of pure torque. Capable of towing 10,450 pounds, this truck would be the ultimate one car hauler to take your prized car to shows around the country. Serving as a reminder of one of the fastest American production cars in its time, this ‘Red Xpress Truck’ is the ultimate collectible salute to the Li’l Red Express.
