When the Ford F1 Pickups burst onto the scene back in 1948, they satiated long overdue demand for a true, light-duty, post-war era truck. The final product was so successful, it cemented Ford’s flagship F-Series forever after. This world-class custom RestoMod captures all the magic of Ford’s first F-Series and incorporates the serious muscle of the Detroit Dynasty since. A one-of-a-kind pickup, this F1 is ready to impress in a showroom or dominate on the blacktop.
The F1 delivered all the American public had been clamoring for since the war. Until this point, Ford merely built their trucks onto car frames; this model was the first pickup ever built with its own purposefully designed chassis. The extra investment in R&D sure paid off; the F1 is the worthy predecessor to the iconic F-Series that is still a Ford staple today. Myriad factors beyond the chassis contributed to the success of the inaugural model. The cabin was large in width and height and the seats were actually built to have a living room feel, which led to the nickname, “the million-dollar cab.” 1951 ushered in further enhancements, which would deliver the best of the model’s four-year run. In the cockpit, dashboards were redesigned, and blind spots were reduced thanks to a more expansive rear window. The body also received some tweaks. Door panels were updated, and headlights spread out to make way for a more aerodynamic horizontal grille with pronounced teeth – an iconic look today. The ’51 was also granted an improved tailgate and the highly sought-after hardwood floor was incorporated into the truck bed.
This peerless example takes the irresistible body of a 1951 F1 and offers a sleek, blacked-out, lowered and chopped interpretation that is firing on all eight cylinders. This stylized RestoMod captures a vision and looks every bit of its labor-intensive 1000+ custom build hours. The exterior dazzles with high-gloss black paint, boxed and painted frame, professional chopped cab (three inches) and glossy black 17-inch FR500 wheels wearing Mickey Thompson Street Competition Radials. The blacked-out grille is fashionably framed by modern LED headlights. The crowning glory of it all is the custom laser-etched Cobra Super Snake under epoxy resin coating, which is coiled across the coveted hardwood floor. This particular offering delivers on that million-dollar cab reputation and then some with retro-style Vintage air-conditioning and heat, custom TMI black leather bucket seats, suede leather inserts in both the door panels and the headliner, a chrome, tilt steering column with a black leather-wrapped wheel, a sharp, six-speed Hurst shifter, a convenient center console as well as racy stainless-steel accelerator and brake pedals.
Under the hood is where this F1 just flat out eats the competition. A true hot rod, here Fifties charm and form are matched with Ford’s supercharged muscle and high-powered function. The 4.6-liter supercharged dual-overhead cam 32-valve V-8 delivers over 400 horsepower and shifts through a T56 six-speed manual transmission. Modern modifications include power steering, power four-wheel disc brakes with hydro-boost, JLT cold air intake, and Moshimoto aluminum radiator with electric fans. This truck is street and race ready with upgraded upper and lower supercharger pullies. Best of all, this one-of-a-kind F1 has a Mustang Cobra drivetrain and suspension, which translates to an iconic first-generation F1 Pickup that drives and handles like a Super Snake Cobra Truck.
“Steal the show” ready, this inimitable F1 is poised to impress at GoodGuys, rod runs or to promptly destroy the competition on the straightaway. It has all the modern amenities one could ask for with every bit of the charm of a post-war American Ford Pickup Truck. A wonderful opportunity to show or cruise in a spectacular one-of-a-kind restomod.
