Born more than seven decades ago, the Ford F-Series pickup truck instantly earned its spot as a staple of the American dream and culture. Debuting in 1948 as the F-Series Ford Bonus Built, it was Ford’s first post-World War II pickup truck available to the public as Henry Ford had shut down all civilian production to produce military vehicles to support our allies and troops. In its first year for sale, it became Ford’s best-selling pickup truck since the year 1929 and, just two years later in 1950, those sales numbers would go through the roof and triple. The F-Series was designed to be a more rugged and comfortable option for commercial use, but it also was very applicable to the common man; the Ford Bonus Built pickups were stylish enough that now driving a truck into town did not imply you were a farmer or ranch hand. The new stylish appearance could be credited to the five-chrome horizontal bar grille with integrated headlamps and a beefy, yet elegant, front bumper and hood that intertwined to create an eye-catching appearance. Aside from their good looks, a wide variety of Ford Motor Company engines powered this historic line of trucks, ranging from hardworking inline ‘sixes’ to Ford’s famous flathead V-8 and Y-Block overhead valve V-8s, making them well-suited for virtually any purpose – a trait that keeps them in high demand today.
Offered here is this beautiful 1950 Ford F1 Resto Rod Pickup which has come to be best known as an icon in the American culture. Universally loved by all generations, this early production example was treated to a comprehensive body-off restoration that was carefully planned out and well-executed. The exterior was painted in a patriotic bright red that seamlessly blends with all the restored chrome components on the outside of the truck. While all the door panels and sheet metal have been smoothed and refined showing little to no faults, the bed has been replaced with new wood panels. Sitting on nearly new Firestone whitewall tires, this truck still has plenty of trails yet to blaze.
Like the exterior of the truck, the interior has been beautifully restored with the bright red paint flowing throughout the cabin, complementing the new, chrome instrument panel and air vents in the dash. The new light tan leather has replaced the original leather on the bench seat and the carpet has also been replaced to match the rest of the cabin. A four-speed manual transmission has been fitted to the floor, indicating this is an early production model, as the shifter was relocated to the steering column mid-year in 1950. Powering this resto rod pickup is a famous Ford flathead V-8 engine that has been mechanically sorted ensuring it is ready to be driven any distance desired.
Parting ways from a lifelong collector who stored this beautiful 1950 Ford pickup in a climate-controlled building, one can be assured it was looked after while in his collection. With all the restoration work taken care of, there is no better time than now to become a part of the long-lived Ford F-Series legacy.
