After civilian automobile production resumed in late 1945, Hudson Motor Car Company simplified its passenger-car and commercial-vehicle lines, with four series of passenger models including the Super 6, Commodore 6, Super 8, and Commodore 8 – all now sharing the generous 121-inch wheelbase chassis. Hudson’s commercial line now included just one model, the ¾-Ton Series 58 Commercial 6, the sole Hudson for both 1946 and 1947 cataloged on the biggest 128-inch wheelbase. Formally named the Cab Pickup with the former “Big Boy” name-dropped by 1947, these vehicles were very attractively styled with car-like design cues, and interiors were styled to match with wide, comfortable seating and numerous comfort and convenience options. 1946 and 1947 Hudson Cab Pickups were quite rare when new with only 3,104 sold in 1946 and 2,917 for 1947, which would be their final year in production. Since the factory never “officially” produced a pickup based on the unit-construction “Step Down” models of 1948-1954, the 1947 Commercial Six Cab Pickup marked the end of the line for Hudson’s highly regarded Commercial lines, which numbered only 30,199 in total from 1929 through 1947, or roughly one month’s output at Chevrolet during the era.

Rare to see on the road or even in a collection, comes this 1946 Hudson Commercial Six Cab Pickup. Finished in an attractive maroon red during its older restoration, it presents quite well today. The chrome work throughout shines nicely and comes with wide whitewall tires. The black rubber running boards are flaking on both sides. The cabin of this unusual truck comes with newer red diamond pattern leather upholstery on the bench seat as well as the door panels. The Hudson pickups were known as the “Pickups with Polish”, as they came with more attention to detail in the cabs than most pickups of the day. This ’46 comes with a Weather-Master heater, a 30-hour clock, a steering wheel that features a horn ring encircled with chrome, and a hidden upgraded stereo system with USB capabilities. With their wonderful blend of attractive car-like styling and useful cargo capacity, the 1946-1947 Hudson pickups remain popular with enthusiasts, never failing to draw crowds of admirers wherever they are driven or shown.
