In the mid-1920s, luxury car manufacturers across the country began developing multicylinder engines to meticulously fit into their upscale automobiles. During this time, Cadillac made sure they were not to be outdone and were quietly constructing two different engines, a V-12 and a V-16. In October of 1930, Cadillac began shipping their V-12s to dealers to display in their showrooms for the 1931 models. Cadillac’s new-for-1931 V-12 models played a vital role in the company’s success as they filled the large gap between the V-8 and V-16 models. While the V-12 performance was impressive thanks to lead Cadillac engineer, Owen Kacker, what was equally impressive was the stylish coachwork. A total of 30 different body styles were offered for the V-12 models, six by Fisher and 24 by Fleetwood. Benefiting from Fisher coachwork and produced in far fewer numbers than most V-12 Cadillacs, this stylish and upscale model offered here is a wonderful example of the Cadillac marque.
This ’31 Cadillac V-12 Victoria was acquired by The Rockhound Collection in 2018 when it traded hands from The Calumet Collection. Before The Calumet Collection had acquired it in New England, it is reported that this Victoria Coupe was in solid condition and that the engine had been replaced with a period/year-correct engine, which is in strong running order. While numerous mechanical and cosmetic improvements were made, it still retains its original wood floor with the correct Fisher body stampings. The green and black paint has a good shine to it and combines nicely with the accessorized painted wire wheels to create an attractive appearance. The interior's broadcloth upholstery and wood trim are also in good condition. Notable features and accessories include a rear-mounted spare tire, dual mirrors and front fender lights, dual horns and a radiator stone guard. Known for having proven driving characteristics, this Victoria Coupe offers a nice combination of sporty looks and spacious comfort.
Recognized by the Classic Car Club of America as a Full Classic®, it is accepted in events across the country and is ideal for numerous different tours and CARavans. Hardly seen for sale, this V-12 Cadillac is ready to be welcomed by its next caretaker and make many more memories on the road.
