Prior to doing an original oil painting, NASCAR artist Jeanne Barnes would do a preliminary pencil sketch to be approved by the client. This one-of-a-kind piece is the pencil sketch done for Auto Sport Gallery in 1990. The sketch includes her notes in top left corner of her cost of $680 to do the watercolor. To the best of the consignor's knowledge, and owning over 5,000 prints by Jeanne Barnes, this particular Dale Earnhardt piece was never made. That makes this one of the rarest Dale Earnhardt pieces of art that exists.
