There’s just something special about a fine British sports car, something that MG knew right from the beginning. Starting in the 1920s, MG quickly became widely known for their open two-seat sports cars that epitomized the British sports car experience. Business was good but, in 1936, MG changed the game with the introduction of their T-Series cars. Excellent handling, spirited performance, and styling that would go on to define a proper sports car, made the T-Series cars some of the most successful sports cars ever built. In the end, five different generations of the T-Series were built and all were excellent cars.

There were nearly 30,000 MG TDs built, and this exquisite Mark II is the 1,127th of only 1,710 Competition Roadsters ever built between 1950 and 1953. Out of that limited production, just 700 units were left-hand drive, set aside for export to the U.S. market.

Offered here is a 1952 MG TD left-hand drive Competition Roadster that takes touring to a whole new level. This TD is an outstanding example that was completely restored in 1969. After restoration, it was only used as a Sunday driver for many years, then it semi-retired and was only driven a few times a year to shows and parades in the Riverside, California area. Following its west coast time, it has seen care and service by the current owner, in a prominent Texas collection.

It recently received an as needed restoration to enhance its attributes and preserve its fitting patina. It proudly bears minor character traits that handsomely attest to its journey. The odometer shows just 7,000 miles, which may be original, or simply since its 1969 full restoration, and its lovely appearance attests to its pampered life. As a Mark II, it features a performance 58-horsepower engine with an 8.1:1 compression ratio and dual SU carburetors. The engine compartment is beautifully detailed with a polished aluminum valve cover featuring the MG crest, chrome air breathers, and a dazzling brass radiator mantel. All wiring and plumbing are properly sorted, and all surfaces are nicely painted. A taller rear-end ratio makes maintaining higher speeds a breeze. The engine is also the correct and matching numbers unit for this car. The interior is finished in fine tan leather with a matching dashboard and lovely gauges that give it the perfect British sports car look. On the floor are nicely finished wood floorboards that are typical of an early sports car. The exterior also features a number of accessories that add to its stellar appearance. Fender-mounted rearview mirrors and fog lights add a touch of class while its optional badge bar nicely displays its many accolades. Wind wings offer protection while a luggage rack just behind the full-size spare tire allows for extra baggage on long tours.

The MG name is legendary in the world of sports cars and this left-hand drive TD Mark II Competition Roadster is a car that literally defines how wonderful an MG can be. Whether being trailered to shows or cruising the open road, this MG is ready to perform and satisfy.
