Distinguished from other Chevrolet models at the time by its symmetrical triple taillights, the 1962 Impala SS was in a design class of its own. Designed and built in a time known at Chevrolet as the ‘Bill Mitchell era’, this automobile was fortunate enough to be drawn up and designed by none other than Bill Mitchell himself. Having spent most of his 42-year-long career in the automobile design office at General Motors, he eventually became the Vice President of Design and would hold that position for 19 years. Mitchell is credited for the creation and influence on designs of over 72.5 million automobiles made by GM. Though many argue that Mitchell is one of the best mass production automobile designers to this day, the creator of this ‘62 Impala SS Custom, decided to take this already beautifully designed car to a whole new level. With the odometer showing only 7,240 miles, this Custom ‘62 Impala still has a lot of places left to visit. The four-speed automatic transmission, upgraded power steering, and power brakes allow for this car to be driven by anyone that might please.

The custom build was started off with a well-executed frame-off restoration that really set the standard for the rest of the build to follow. The frame as well as the upper and lower arms were powder coated to give it a long-lasting life and ensure protection from chemicals on the road and rust build up. All the body panels on the car were also stripped, prepared, and painted with three-stage PPG products and painted with the final touch of an eye-catching Cadillac Candy Apple Red paint that perfectly contrasts the already stunning chrome components.

The no-expense-spared theme follows through to the engine bay, as a high-power performing LS6 engine was placed at the heart of the build. Surrounding that are many performance and speed parts including an Edelbrock throttle body and top-of-the-line cold air intake that help spur on an already impressive horsepower rating. The craftsmanship is just as fine inside the cabin. Custom four-seat Ultraleather interior was added for ultimate comfort and space for anyone driving or riding in it. The sparkling Candy Apple Red paint and chrome can also be seen throughout the interior of the car. A well-displaying Dakota Digital gauge has been fitted into the original restored dash. Powering the Pioneer audio unit and speakers is a highly sought-after Rockford Fosgate P4004 amplifier that gives it a powerful bass note and crisp sound. Vintage Air air-conditioning and heating system was also added for maximum comfort while cruising. Many additional features have been added to the car that include weave carpet in the interior and trunk, a custom fabricated center console, Classic Performance four-wheel disc brakes, and KYB adjustable shock absorbers. One would derive much pleasure, both taking this lovely Chevrolet to the shows and out on the open road. Considering the lengthy performance enhancements and excellent condition it would be difficult to find a better example.
