When the Porsche 930 Turbo was unveiled at Paris Motor Show 1974, it was the first of many generations of “911 Turbos” that would be produced. Initially equipped with a 3.0 turbo engine with 260 horsepower, it was soon upgraded to a 3.3-litre with 300 horsepower in 1977. Once again, Dr. Fuhrmann adapted the turbo technology to the flat-six engine, including an air-to-air intercooler in order to allow enough fresh air to enter the turbo and increase performance. The car also received a revised suspension, larger brakes, big fenders and a stronger gearbox developed to handle the increased power. The iconic and aerodynamic “whale tail” first appeared on this model, adding more downforce to the car at high speed and helping to optimize engine cooling. These features made the 930 the fastest German sports car of its time.
In 1981, some appreciative customers of the racing Porsche 935, asked to have their 930s modified with a similar front. Responding to customer’s requests, the Porsche Exclusive Department constructed a limited number of "Sonderwunsche" (Special Wish) 930 “Slant Nose” or “Flachbau” cars. Between 1982 and 1983, 59 Porsche 930 Slant Nose cars were produced. This very rare 930 Turbo offered here is number 13 out of 42 Slant Nose cars built by the Exclusive Department of Stuttgart for the 1982 model year. It features the highly desirable bumper-mounted headlights in lieu of the pop-up lights seen on later models. Other factory options on this rare Porsche include leather sport seats, black roof liner, alarm system, air-conditioning and the sunroof. Setting this 930 S Turbo Slant Nose apart from the rest of the pack are the incredible in-period performance upgrades by RUF Automobile GmbH, a company that needs no introduction in Porsche circles. The cost of the soon-after-delivery upgrades added a staggering $17,000 to the cost of the vehicle and includes the RUF performance minded 5-speed gearbox and exhaust.
Finished in gleaming Grand Prix white with contrasting blue leather, it is in remarkable original condition, having only been driven less than 32,400 miles since new and still retains its original matching numbers engine and transmission. A document from the Porsche Exclusive Department verifying that this car is an original factory Slant Nose accompanies the car, as well as recent service receipts documenting a major service with valve adjustment, servicing of the turbo system including rebuilding the wastegate, as well as other items totaling over $12,000. This is a very rare Porsche model that is seldom offered for sale, creating an exciting opportunity to acquire one of these very special early Slant Nose Porsches.
