Rolls-Royce has always stood for unrivaled luxury and quality. With its iconic ‘Spirit of Ecsta-sy’ mascot mounted on the imposing chrome radiator shell, there is no mistaking a Rolls-Royce and taking note of its driver. Introduced in 1971, the Corniche name was taken from the French term referring to “road on a ledge.” As a two-door saloon body style, it invoked the care-free and sporting culture of the French Riviera along the Mediterranean coast. It received perfor-mance upgrades over its more sedate sibling, the Silver Shadow, with more engine and stopping power. Although breaking from past styling, this model sports the quintessential Rolls-Royce rear quarter-panel kick-up in the body line and the evocative radiator shell. The bodies were built by the famed coachbuilder, Mulliner Park Ward, each one averaging a five-month build time. Although offered in both a two-door saloon or convertible, it is the latter that became the most popular with 2,594 built between 1971 and 1983. The Corniche soon was desired by royal-ty and celebrities worldwide. At one point during the 1970s, would-be owners faced a four-year waiting list.

This 1981 Corniche exhibits a Tudor Red exterior complemented by its cream fabric top. The Magnolia hide leather interior and bright red carpet are in showroom condition. Included in the sale are the factory ‘Colour Selector Kit” binder, interior leather samples and Rolls-Royce Workshop manual. In 1981, the Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection system was introduced for im-proved performance and efficiency on export models such as those destined for the U.S. With its durable GM Hydramatic transmission, air-conditioning and power steering, this Corniche will provide effortless cruising if the new owner wants to add a few extra miles to the odometer on the way to the country club. Recently serviced and presenting as quite possibly the lowest mile example extant, this is your chance to own a Corniche convertible that is an im-peccable original reference example.
