Dearborn's fight to shed its also-ran image got a boost when the Mach 1 moved into the starting gate. Here was a Mustang that looked the part of a modern pony muscle car, with tons of options available to create the car of your dreams. The Mustang was restyled for '69, gaining 3.8 inches of body length -- all ahead of the front wheels -- and about 140 pounds of curb weight. The flowing lines looked the very best in the new Mach 1 livery, which was the mainstream performance version. It came standard with a capable 351 V-8, but star of the stable was the optional 428 cubic-inch Cobra Jet on this fine example.
This Marti Report backed Mach 1 started with a 'SportsRoof' body and was shipped with numerous visual and performance enhancing items such as matte black hood treatment with hood pins, shaker hood scoop, competition suspension, chrome pop-open gas cap, and those cool rear window louvers, known as Sport Slats. The fit and finish is outstanding throughout, with crisp graphics, spoilers, and excellent chrome trim. That performance image is very real, with a four-speed manual transmission and Traction-Lok differential putting the 335 horsepower onto your local highway. You’ll love popping the hood and showing off the impressively clean 428 Cobra Jet, which looks and sounds fantastic in every way. Massive engine - mid-sized body – performance suspension – four speed - sounds like fun! The beauty continues inside, with a very correct and clean presentation of this classic muscle car deluxe interior. Full of faux woodgrain and correct deep-set analog gauges nicely integrated into the sporty dash. The upholstery, door panels, and carpets are all clean and tidy, and even the badging and logos look like new.
The new owner of this fine Mach 1 will enjoy showing the car at any MCA or AACA events, but the true fun will come from unleashing the power out on your local country roads, enjoying the performance of one of Ford’s most legendary vehicles.
